TIPS on Hiring a Foodtruck For Your Wedding – YES… YOU WILL LOVE IT!!

November 7th, 2016

brideandgroom

When the time comes to planning your wedding, the choices and possibilities, for every aspect of your wedding, seem to be endless.  From photographers to floral designers, most brides are looking for a wedding vendor who will bring the most creativity and style to their special day.  And although creative photographers and floral designers are important, let me tell you a little secret… why not invest that same creativity and style into your caterer and hire yourself a food truck… yes, a FOOD TRUCK!!

catering

PROS AND CONS

If you are considering hiring a food truck, you’re moving in the right direction! Food trucks are the HOTTEST trends in weddings and give a special event an infusion of creativity and customization your guests will LOVE.   But as always, logistics have to be considered to make sure that your wedding is right for a food truck.

There are many reasons to move forward with booking a food truck, fun atmosphere, delicious specialty food, variety of food trucks and food styles,  freedom with creative menu planning, not having to make your guests travel from ceremony to reception location, and may be less expensive than most traditional caterers… I can go on and on with the many benefits of food trucks.

However, as with anything, there are a few cons to consider.  Limited number of guests can be served per food truck, no seating provided, limited access (some reception venues do not allow food trucks or may not have space for a food truck to park), may not serve alcoholic beverages, may be in high demand or difficult to book.

CONSIDERATIONS TO ELIMINATE OBSTACLES (CONS)

  1. Consider  your venue.  If your ceremony location does not provide you with a caterer, than a food truck may just be what you are looking for. Speak to the ceremony venue to see if they have an outdoor or indoor area appropriate for your reception, specifically to see if they can accommodate space/parking for one or more food trucks.
  2. Consider the season. Summer may be the obvious choice, but spring and late fall are good options to consider as well. These months are cooler and guests do not have to deal with extreme heat.
  3. No matter the season, make sure to plan for the weather.  Needless to say, if you are having an outside reception, you will be taking weather into consideration.  Setting up a tent or arranging seating in a shaded area will help your guests feel comfortable or have respite from an uncooperative weather issue.food
  4. Consider the guest count. Guest count is key in terms of planning how many food trucks to incorporate.  Some food trucks can only handle 75 people or less, others can handle more.  Speak with your “first choice” food truck to see if you will need to add more food trucks to your reception. Having multiple trucks can be creative and unique.  For instance, you can have Beauty of the Bistro (yes, we just recommended ourselves) and add an additional food truck for strictly dessert, such as ice cream or funnel cakes.  Or, you can have two to three food trucks offering a variety of menu items such as one specializing in BBQ, another in pizza, while another is totally committed to burgers. The possibilities are endless.img_1374
  5. Consider the seating. In terms of seating, think of food trucks as a hip, modern take on buffet service. This means you have basically two dining options: Set up formal tables so guests can grab their food and have a sit-down meal, or put utensils and napkins in a central location to encourage guests to stand and mingle while they eat. We recommend setting up areas to sit. Having a mixture of cocktails tables and sitting areas is a great idea, but make sure that there are PLENTY of seating areas for guests who want to relax and enjoy their meal.

A Busy Happy 2014 with Beauty of the Bistro!

December 21st, 2014
Please take a few minutes as we share some photos of our busy year!
We completed another wonderful food truck season. We have put the Food Truck to bed for a bit, but we’ll back soon!

A Labor of Love

July 26th, 2014

I came across a photo today, that caused me to stop and reread it several times. When we are out in the Food Truck, many people stop to inquire about running this type of business. The words I read summed it up quite well.

10532915_787290227982389_1257477148073424997_n

My sister, Valorie and her son came for a visit. They live in Sydney, Australia. It had been 3 1/2 years since I had seen them. We were right in the middle of our busiest wedding season, so naturally, when she offered to help, I didn’t refuse!

Valorie was quick to notice my hands didn’t quite look the same as she remembered, so she took a photo of our hands, side by side. Hmmm, can you tell which belongs to a food truck owner, and which hand belongs to a Psychologist?

There are many sacrifices necessary to keep the Food Truck business moving in the right direction, but the most important one, as the photo above says- Love of Labor.

Ready for a NEW YEAR!

December 30th, 2013

Beauty of the Bistro is gearing up for a new food truck season. We are excited to see the continual growth in the food truck community. Local business owners are really seeing the benefits of wonderful, fresh food being served right outside the door of their building.

The Kauffman Center for Performing Arts

We are also very excited for the opportunities we have had to serve at community functions and corporate events, as well as wedding receptions and holiday parties.

The KC Star Food Truck Friday

Some new faces (trucks) and newly organized groups will be showing their face in the coming weeks. One group we are particularly excited about is The Kansas City Food Truck Mafia.

“mafia.” Def.3. Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913),  Any tightly knit group of trusted associates.

Why the Food Truck Mafia?

Mediocre food runs rampant in today’s society!  Fast food, grocery store cafes, and convenience stores have become a major source of nutrition, or lack of, in our diets.  We grab a quick burger at the drive-thru, a meat-like item off the hot rollers, or a piece of fried chicken and white stuff resembling wallpaper paste at the deli counter.  We know in our hearts that it is not going to be good, nor good for us.  Yet we still do it.  We all desire something tastier, healthier, and convenient!  Enter the Food Truck Mafia!!!

Kansas City’s Food Truck Mafia is a collection of the the best looking, most professional and funnest food trucks in town.  Each truck is owned and operated by Kansas City area residents.  We may be your friend, family or neighbor.  We strive hard to feed you the most wholesome and tasty food you can eat.  We feed you like family!!

Truckin’ with the Beauty: Rock-and-roll lunch on the food truck

You are What You Eat!?!

February 28th, 2013

I remember seeing that poster in the cafeteria lunchroom at Stanley Elementary. I spent a lot of time pondering it’s meaning- probably more than the average 2nd or 3rd grader. And even though I don’t remember thinking that the school lunches were horrible, I knew that wobbly rectangle pizza didn’t seem normal. It does seem strange that the “You are What You Eat” poster was placed in the same cafeteria where processed burger patties, frozen tater tots, canned fruit and chocolate milk were offered.

imagesCAY7LCSY

But I also remember the Lunch Ladies…they always smiled and were happy to see us. By the time I left elementary school, I was sad to leave the familiar lunch room and the ladies that always remembered to give me extra pickles with my round patty thing on a bun.

Much later in life I was humored that my husband preferred that I make his lunch, because my sandwiches always tasted better. One might think he was just trying to get out of making his own lunch.

But I do believe “You are What You Eat” means something far more powerful.  If you believe in the notion that if you exude positive energy and thoughts, then you will receive positive responses from the universe and vice-verse.
Translating this theory into food and cooking, if you cook with a positive energy and a happy mood rather than cooking as a chore or a stressful profession, your food will reflect it. It is so important to cook with Positive Energy. If you are rushed, angry, upset or stressed, I feel it directly affects the quality of the meal being prepared.

As I think about all the opportunities I have had- family gatherings, high school football dinners, wedding receptions, I feel blessed to have been able to share something that was prepared from the heart.

And I will continue to make my husbands lunch, because my sandwich really might taste better.

Can’t you do anything the normal way???

November 12th, 2012

Throughout my lifetime, I have always felt I didn’t do anything the ‘normal’ way. I always had to put a twist to any project I had. Even when I am cleaning, my husband claims I have to destroy a room first. And usually when I am finished, the room has been rearranged, pictures re-hung and sometimes a new paint color on the walls. But it is always clean in the end.

My son was studying hereditary genetics in school and shared with me that less than 2% of the world population has green eyes.

My sister has blue eyes, so she is a little less of a freak!

So that got me thinking and googling, and I found that Red hair is the least common hair color in the world at 1-2% of the population.
On to my next research….A variety of studies suggest that approximately 10% of the world population is left-handed. I know many people are aware of Right-handed and Left-handed scissors. When I was in grade school, there was always a box filled with the blue handled scissors for the ‘Normal’ kids, and then there was the 1-2 pairs of green handled scissors for the left-handed kids. And kids would look at me funny when I took the green handled scissors. But it was the same funny look I had become accustom to when they looked at my red hair.
One more hereditary genetic fact that I chose to research was Blood type. I have AB negative which I discovered when I was pregnant.  A woman is at risk when she has a negative Rh factor and her partner has a positive Rh factor. This combination can produce a child who is Rh  positive, This can cause the mother to create antibodies against the Rh factor, thus treating an Rh positive baby like an intruder in her body.  This is probably more information than you cared to have…anyway, I knew I was a rarity, but after checking the charts I fall into the 1%.

My research has shown me that there is very little chance I can do anything the normal way. I have learned to accept this over the years, and actually have embraced it in many aspects of my life.

What in the world does this have to do with Beauty of the Bistro??? If you have visited the Food Truck, you may have noticed there is nothing plain or normal on the menu. Everything has a little twist. There have been a few customers that struggle with this, but the ones that embrace it and step outside of the box, have come to appreciate that a Boom Boom Taco is so much more than just a Taco!!!
